Dagan held the lantern high above his heads spreading the golden glow reaching out into the inky darkness of which becoming his prison. He stumbled over loose lying rocks and fell to his knees, they were right I’ll never make it out alive, he cried silently. Tears started to well up in his eyes and one by one rolled down his grubby, blood stained cheek. NO, He shouted noiselessly, I can’t give up, I SHALL NOT FAIL. This was a battle from with in him. Only he could win it but everyone could lose. He was willing himself to go on, his lantern flickered as a breeze past through the tunnel all most plunging Dagan into complete darkness.
The young man stood up and walked on; driven by will power alone. He heard a soft song like whistle from a bird somewhere close by, his heart started to race. All he could hear now was the thump, thump, thump of his heart. A shard of light shining down from the ceiling hit him. Hope filled him now making him laugh out loud in a torrent of happiness. He grabbed onto the rock and pulled himself into the sunshine. As soon as the light hit him his eye started to burn, three days in a tunnel had took its toll. His legs suddenly buckled under his weight and he came crashing down to the ground and fell asleep in seconds. The hard rocky ground not even stirring him from his deep sleep.
Chapter 1
As he woke he saw four smudged figures standing in front of him. Quickly his vision started to clear and he saw them properly; small and fat with round tubby face. He thought back to they fairytales he was told as a child, were they true are these dwarfs, no surely not there were no such thing. But they stood be for him as living proof.
He tried to move his arms they were tied down by a thin rope attached to metal clamps holding on to the rock. His pocket knife had been in his jacket, but now it was gone. And so was his gold; these creatures must be thieves
