This is chapter one of my first story: Evil Roots
Chapter 1: Headshot
Gareth Bolton was a millionaire. He had made his millions after creating an internet search engine that left Google for dead. He liked to think that he had a good life. He didn’t walk into a shop and think about buying a product, he thought about buying the shop. However, despite all this luxury, he led a very, lonely life. He was a young man, but he couldn’t go out and pick up girls because he had to have bodyguards in case of assassination attempts. Gareth thought that this was a stupid precaution. Who would want to kill him?
Three weeks ago, a criminal organisation called FAD got an anonymous phone call from a wealthy Cuban internet tycoon. Their instructions were to kill Gareth Bolton. They were to be paid the sum of £2,000,000 to carry out the murder, with half of it to be paid in advance. Due to the size of the job, FAD decided to dispatch their best assassin to carry out the deed.
That is why Sean Newman was perched on top of a building in Chelsea, near to the home of Gareth Bolton. He knew that he was here to kill the multi-millionaire inventor of the PinPoint search engine but that wasn’t what was going through his mind. The mind of an assassin must never dwell on the identity of the person that they are about to kill because this makes them a person and can cause the kind of hesitation that makes operations fail. There was an M40 sniper rifle set up on the roof in front of him. He was waiting for 8:45, the time in which Bolton was leaving his house to go out for a meal. Before, going up onto the roof Sean had silenced the man’s guards with, appropriately enough a silenced pistol. Now, he just had to wait.
Gareth Bolton was getting annoyed. He had been waiting for the bodyguards that would escort him to the restaurant for 10 minutes. This wouldn’t bother a normal person, but Gareth wasn’t a normal person; no-one turned up late for him. It was almost 8:45 and they still hadn’t arrived. This was when Gareth made the worst and last decision of his life. He decided that not having the guards with him was good. That meant that he could go to a club and maybe he’d even meet a girl. Gareth ran a comb through his perfect black hair and stepped outside.
Sean saw a slim man with dark hair and perfectly formed features step outside the house and make his way towards a luxurious Ferrari parked behind a set of gates. He only had one shot, so he had to make it count. He tightened his finger on the trigger and fired.
Gareth just had time to register the noise before the harsh, metal shell hit him in the head. Blood exploded over the driveway and a limp body flopped onto the bonnet of the Ferrari with blood pouring from the head and neck.
A few minutes later, the area around the house was littered with police cars. In all the confusion, no-one noticed a man dressed in black stroll towards a nearby Jaguar holding a briefcase with a murderous smile slowly spreading across his face.
